Safer and faster flexible road barriers

Robos

ROBOS is a transformational road barrier system with an automated installation system. Safer for drivers, riders, passengers and workers, its innovative design overcomes the limitations of traditional wire rope barriers.

Reducing Road Deaths and Serious Injuries

Certified to AASHTO MASH TL 4 and approved by Austroads Safety Barrier Assessment Panel (ASBAP), ROBOS is Accepted by Roading Authorities in New Zealand , New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia and Northern Territory. ROBOS is designed to enable and enhance the Road Safety plans.

ROBOS improves safety for a wider range of road users. Its high speed, automated installation process is safer for operators and reduces traffic disruption.

It also offers the highest benefit-cost ratio of any flexible road barrier.

Innovative road barrier components

The ROBOS system covers a wide range of uses, with its different components making the road safer for a wider group of users. Both roadside and median barriers offer better protection for motorcyclists and heavy vehicles, while the end terminals remove the need for heavy concrete installation. Innovative enhancements allow road barriers to be part of an alert system providing more responsive support for road safety.

Roadside Barrier

Our flexible steel roadside barriers offer higher safety standards for all vehicle classes.

Median Barrier

Our flexible median barriers offer high levels of protection while causing less vehicle damage.

End Terminal

Our revolutionary system uses ground screws without concrete for fast and effective installation.

Ice Alert

We can install sensor systems to monitor temperatures and alert road services to the presence of ice.

First Reponder Alert

Our impact sensing technology can notify first responders and direct them to the accident location.

Motorcycle Barrier

Wire rope barriers can have a 100% fatality rate for motorcyclists. Our new protection rail will save lives.

Enhanced road safety

With 7 deaths per 100,000 people, New Zealand has a much higher road fatality rate than Europe (where there are no new wire rope barriers). The Road to Zero programme from Waka Kotahi aims to reduce fatalities to 4.8 per 100,000. With protection for a wider range of vehicles and road users, ROBOS can play a significant role in achieving that goal.

ROBOS protects more vehicles

The AASHTO Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH) does not cover protection for all vehicle types. The ROBOS flexible barrier system does.

Better for everyone

With the ROBOS System, everyone benefits. It’s safer for workers and road users. It’s cost effective for contractors and commissioning agencies. It’s easier to install and maintain. And it has flow-on benefits for emergency services. It’s a transformative and innovative product for the transport sector, engineered right here in New Zealand.

Cost Effective

Product, installation and life cycle costs for ROBOS are competitive when compared to existing alternatives.

Safer to Install

Our fully mechanised process means no workers are on the road, significantly improving their safety.

Motorcyclist Friendly

The ROBOS barrier system, including the motorcyclist protection rail is much safer than existing WRSB systems.

Design

ROBOS is designed to combine form and function effectively. Its minimal form offers maximum protection.

Certified

Our flexible barrier system is fully certified to the highest international standards, meaning it is fully compliant and ready to roll out.

Fast to install

Installed at a rate of 2 km per 10 hour shift, ROBOS is 5 times faster to install than other flexible road barrier systems.

First Responders

Automated alerts for emergency services can speed up response time, improving survival rates and reducing traffic disruption.

Repairs

The way ROBOS is constructed makes post-accident repairs quick, easy and cost effective.

Minimal Disruption

Installation uses only two vehicles, reducing disruption and road closures and making night work easier.

Better for workers

The automated installation process and safe working conditions mean workers can stay fully focused on their job.

Versatile

ROBOS can be installed as a roadside or median barrier on almost any sealed NewZealand road.
